You use Perplexity to research a supplier, a market or a client's company. Then the actual conversation with that supplier happens on WhatsApp, and you're flipping between the two, pasting quotes from one into the other and trying to remember who said what.
You can connect WhatsApp to Perplexity on a Pro, Max or Enterprise plan by adding Perisclaw as a custom remote connector. Open Settings → Connectors, choose + Custom connector, then Remote, paste https://api.perisclaw.com/mcp/plugin, sign in, and pick read only or read and write. Perplexity can then search, summarise and (if you allow it) reply to your own WhatsApp chats, next to its usual web search.
What you need before you start
A paid Perplexity plan: custom remote connectors are on Pro, Max and Enterprise. Free accounts don't see the option.
On Enterprise, your admin's OK: members can only add their own connectors if an admin turns on Allow members to add custom connectors under Organization settings → Connectors. It's off by default.
The web or desktop app: Perplexity's instructions are for the web and desktop apps, so set it up there.
Your phone nearby: if you're new to Perisclaw, you'll link WhatsApp during sign-in by scanning a QR code or entering a pairing code.
Connect WhatsApp to Perplexity, step by step
Open Settings → Connectors in Perplexity. (Perplexity has been moving connectors to a Plugins page, so on some accounts you'll find them there.)
Choose + Custom connector, then Remote.
Enter Perisclaw as the name and
https://api.perisclaw.com/mcp/pluginas the MCP server URL.If Perplexity asks for an authentication type, choose OAuth, and for transport choose Streamable HTTP. Leave any client ID and secret empty; Perisclaw registers Perplexity automatically.
Tick the acknowledgement box and select Add.
Click the new Perisclaw connector. The Perisclaw sign-in opens; sign in or create your account, link WhatsApp if you haven't, then choose Read only or Read & write and approve.

These steps follow Perplexity's own documentation as of November 2026. If the Perisclaw sign-in doesn't complete, contact support and we'll help.
Then start a new thread and name the connector in your question, which tells Perplexity to use it: "Using Perisclaw, what needs my reply on WhatsApp today?"
Things to ask Perplexity about your WhatsApp
Perplexity is strongest when it mixes the web with your own context, so try prompts that do both:
Check a quote: "Using Perisclaw, find the price the printer quoted me on WhatsApp last week, then check what similar print runs cost online."
Prep for a call: "Summarise my WhatsApp chat with Meera from Acme, then research Acme's latest funding news."
Catch up: "Using Perisclaw, summarise the site team group since Monday and list anything I need to decide."
Find things: "Find the address Rahul sent me last month."
Reply: with read and write access, "Tell Meera I'll send the proposal Friday." Check the message Perplexity is about to send before you confirm.

Reading your chats this way doesn't mark them as read, so nobody sees blue ticks just because Perplexity looked.
Read only or read and write?
Access | What Perplexity can do |
|---|---|
Read only | Search and read your chats, contacts and groups. It can't send or change anything. |
Read & write | Everything above, plus send messages and files (up to 25 MB), react, and manage chats, labels and groups. |
Start with read only. Perplexity's help pages don't say whether it asks before every tool call on a custom connector, so keep sending switched off until you've seen how it behaves. To widen access later, reconnect and choose read and write. You can see and remove every connected tool in the Perisclaw web app.
Isn't Perplexity already on WhatsApp?
Perplexity launched a WhatsApp chatbot in 2025 that you could message with questions. WhatsApp changed its business terms from January 15, 2026 to bar AI companies from offering general-purpose assistants that way, which affected Perplexity's bot along with ChatGPT's and Copilot's. Either way, that bot was a separate contact you texted; it never could see your own chats. A connector is the other way round: Perplexity stays where it is and gets access to your WhatsApp.
Other ways to do this
No paid Perplexity plan: Claude allows one custom connector on its free plan, and ChatGPT has Perisclaw as an installable app. See our guides to connecting WhatsApp to ChatGPT and connecting WhatsApp to Claude.
One conversation, one time: export the chat from WhatsApp as a text file and upload it to a Perplexity thread. It's free, but it's a snapshot that won't update and can't reply.
No AI app at all: Perisclaw works inside WhatsApp too. Message your own number and ask it there.
Is it safe?
Perisclaw connects to your WhatsApp as a linked device, the same way WhatsApp Web does, so your account stays on your phone and you can log it out under Linked devices. Perplexity gets your own WhatsApp only, at the level you chose. We don't use your messages to train AI models. WhatsApp's help centre warns that linking unofficial apps can lead to a ban; Perisclaw is built for normal personal use and stops and checks with you after 15 chats if you try to send the same message to many people. FAQ
Can Perplexity read my WhatsApp messages?

Can I connect WhatsApp to Perplexity on the free plan?
No. Custom remote connectors need Pro, Max or Enterprise.
Does it work on my phone?
Set it up on the web or desktop app. Perplexity's help pages only describe adding custom connectors there.
