Claude Duet vs other personal AI assistants: what it does and who it's for

Your inbox has 40 unread emails, your calendar has a clash at 3pm, and a client has asked twice on WhatsApp whether the quote is ready. You don't need another chatbot to ask questions; you need something that looks first and tells you what needs you. That's the pitch behind a new wave of "proactive" assistants, and Anthropic's Claude Duet is the latest.
Claude Duet is Anthropic's proactive agent, launched as a research preview on October 21 2026. It checks your connected apps every few hours, sends a morning brief, does tasks you hand it, and asks before it sends, pays, signs or deletes anything. As of November 2026 it's waitlist-only for Claude Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US, and you talk to it inside the Claude app, not in WhatsApp. If your work runs through email, Slack and business tools, Duet is a strong pick. If it runs through WhatsApp, an assistant that lives on your own number is the better fit.
What Claude Duet does
Anthropic describes Duet as Claude that "comes to you with what needs your attention". In practice:
Morning brief: a summary of what matters across the apps you connect, then quiet until something needs you.
Background checks: it looks at your connected accounts every few hours and flags what's urgent.
Real work: it runs in its own cloud computer with a browser, so it can do things like find unpaid invoices and draft reminders, prepare payroll, build documents or put together a dashboard.
Approvals: before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, it shows you exactly what it will do and waits. It can't trade securities or move money between accounts.
One thread: you type or speak to it in a single ongoing conversation that remembers what you said.
It works with more than 6,000 connectors and plugins, including Gmail, Slack, Stripe, HubSpot, Notion and Shopify.
Who can get Claude Duet, and what it costs
As of November 2026, Duet is a research preview on a waitlist for Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US, on iOS, Android and claude.ai. There's no extra charge during the preview; it shares your plan's usage limits, and its background checks count toward them. Team and Enterprise plans aren't included yet.
Anthropic is upfront that it's early: Duet can misread a thread, get urgency wrong, miss something that arrives between check-ins, and it's weaker at personal errands like booking tickets.

Where Claude Duet wins
Duet is the better choice if your day lives in email, Slack, Stripe, a CRM and spreadsheets. It has far more connectors than any WhatsApp assistant, a cloud browser for multi-step jobs, and if you already pay for Claude Pro or Max in the US it costs nothing extra right now. For invoices, payroll prep and building reports, it does more than Perisclaw does.
Where a WhatsApp assistant wins
If your clients, vendors and team talk to you on WhatsApp, the work you're missing is in those chats, and Duet doesn't mention WhatsApp at all. Poke and Meta AI live in messaging apps but only see what you send them.
Perisclaw connects to your own WhatsApp number as a linked device, like WhatsApp Web, and reads the chats you allow. Each morning it tells you who's waiting on a reply, it catches up busy groups and voice notes, tracks what you promised people, and drafts messages that it sends after you approve. It doesn't use Meta's Business API, so Meta's chatbot rules don't decide where it works, and there's no waitlist. One honest caveat: WhatsApp warns that unofficial linked apps can lead to bans, so Perisclaw is built for normal personal use and stops after 15 chats before anything looks like bulk sending.

You can also use them together: Perisclaw connects to Claude as a custom connector, so Claude can search your WhatsApp. See how to connect WhatsApp to Claude. Anthropic hasn't said whether custom connectors work inside Duet's preview, so we don't promise that. For a wider list, see the best personal AI assistants compared.
